M-tec's history
From hobby to business M-tec started in 1996 in Svend Mousten Hansen’s garage, which was subsequently upgraded to the ‘Laboratory’. In 1998, the company relocated to a location near Blokhus, in northern Jutland. Svend and Jesper Fjeldsø joined forces to run the business, specialising within electronics and mechanics, which quickly grew from being a hobby to a professional business with employees on the payroll.
Svend and Jesper quickly realised that they wanted to produce quality products and provide qualified advice to customers in the process. The customer base grew, and in 2002 the company built its own premises with spacious office and production facilities at Industrivej 10, Pandrup, where it is still based today.
New ideas M-tec won a contract to develop road pricing for Copenhagen, and intelligent speed regulation in a joint project with Aalborg University in 1999. The technology was developed further and found to be ideal for modern fleet management via GSM and GPS, which meant that M-tec began to produce its first small boxes for installation in vehicles and the software to receive data. Initially, the system was based on an SMS service which sent signals between box and software, and followed by GPS technology, opening up a wealth of new applications. M-tec went on to add production and marketing of the Trackunit Pro fleet management system to its electronic and mechanics production, a product which has become one of the leading systems on the Scandinavian market.
M-tec A/S has matured into a well-consolidated and innovative business, with approx. 40 employees based in Denmark and the rest of Europe. In total, the company has around 2500 customers within all three of its divisions, and over 40,000 Trackunit systems have been sold worldwide to date. The company’s founding philosophy of giving the customers the best possible perception of and value from its products continues to apply.
